A trail somewhere.

As mentioned in an earlier post often, while I'm at work I peer out of the cab window at various walking/bike trails around Melbourne.

Often I wonder where does it lead to? What is around the next corner?

This bike path is in Steve and Alsoran's stomping grounds.

The picture was taken as I'm approaching Hoppers Crossing on the Weribee line. The trail starts at Hoppers Crossing and follows the train line heading towards Melbourne for about 800 metres. It then snakes under a rail bridge and heads north.

I like the look of this trail as it is constructed of one of my preferred running surfaces, bitumen. I find bitumen to feel 'softer' than concrete and is easier on the feet.

I have just looked up Australian Map Directory and found that this is part of the Federation_Trail.

Podiatrist

LBETPA asked "So what's happening with your foot?" Currently I'm a little ashamed to say "nothing".

I'm yet to go back and see Brad the Pod. Not from not wanting to just making up my mind and waiting for the finances to be available.

I think I will settle for the middle of the range $200 option. I have been running lately without any pronation support and the ankle is starting to give me grief again. In hindsight the strapping did help more than I realised.

Bugger, I thought it was going to be one of those 'where is this place' type of posts. I'd have it nailed.

Yes, have run along that section many times. That is part of my Skeleton Creek 14 km run.

This running lark can get a bit expensive for those of us who are not bio-mechanically perfect, damnit!

I second what Em said!

Good luck with the orthotic choice.

I agree that bitumen beats concrete, but dirt or grass wins hands (feet) down.

When you get your feet sorted, you could park the train during your lunch break and take a run on one of those tempting trails :)

Yep, my friends ride that trail every night !! The are fit buggers now. If I could get my kids minded a but more often I could also go with them along the way.
My friends begin the trail ride up in Werribee, then progress down past where you took the pic.

Oh yeah, if you ever get to ride or run it..the trail does go North wards, and it crosses a few roads there, and they even installed traffic lights just for the bike/runners to cross safely!!

Like Steve, that scene was very familiar to me too. I haven't run that section, but have ridden it.

Best of luck with the orthotic.

When I was younger I could run in any old shoes, now if I am not wearing a decent pair I will pay the price for weeks physically.

Maybe if you're not feeling 100% convinced you could seek a 2nd opinion? $200 is a fair wad of cash.

Completely pants about the ankle SD, I have to agree with Em... It all adds up.

Have you considered seeing a Sports Doc rather than a Pod? I first went to a pPod for the ITBFS, and was offered an expensive orthotic which I am glad I said no to as it turns out I don't need it - my problems came from chronic muscle tightness (and imbalance/weakness) which was cured by massage rather than orthotics. My sports doc took more of a whole body approach and it seems to have worked. Strengthening, stretching, and I have hardly any probs with the ITB, despite no correction of my pronation... apart from the wonderful Grid Omnis.

Sorry for the rambling comment, just a thought.

Really hope you get it sorted though SD, don't let it get too bad.

B.

It is a good trail to run/ride. Just have to hold your breath around the Brooklyn area, as you pass the factories around there. It's only for a kilometre or so, so you should be fine. :-)

Do you imagine yourself running those unknown tracks and trails? I play a game when I am out in a new area and bored looking out the window, I look down passing side streets and imagine I am running down them

it's fun and can provide me with hours of entertainment

I am easily pleased!

hey, I like the pics of trails. They're different than what I see in Arizona, USA.
I too, have not been as active in blogging, but it's nice to come back to yours and read old posts.

good luck with the ankle.

I went the high cost option and picked my orthodics up last week. I really had no choice as the $200 option wasn't going to suit all that well due to where it is in my stride that I start to turn.

They are suprisingly comfy! Then not. Then I miss them when I'm not wearing them. Just going through tyhe adaptation period now.

Good luck with it all!
